180 Degree South

“It’s not an adventure, until something goes wrong.” -Yvon Chouinard.

In 1968 Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins went on a 5,000 mile adventure. They sought out one of the last wild places on Earth and traveled south from their home in California to Patagonia at the tip of South America. The trip inspired Yvon Chouinard to found Patagonia clothing, which today is one of the largest outdoor clothing companies in the world. With the proceeds from running Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard has help place 2 million acres of Patagonia under permanent protection.

This documentary tells the story of the amazing trip that inspired Chouinard’s success.

In theaters: April 24th, 2010. Watch the new trailer in HD.

“The hardest thing in the world is to simply your life. It’s so easy to make it complex. The solution may be for a lot of the world’s problems is to turn around and take a forward step. You can’t keep trying to make a flawed system work.”
